Former SEC Coaches Update

Tuberville Expecting Big Signing Day for Second Year in a Row…

…But this year he will actually have one.

Former Auburn head coach, Tommy Tuberville, will serve as a guest analyst on ESPN’s National Signing Day show, Wednesday Feb. 4th, 2009. Tuberville HeadsetTuberville, who suffered one of the biggest signing day letdowns of his career one year ago while still at AU, will offer “analysis from a coach’s perspective” on the all-day recruiting bonanza, ESPNU Recruiting Insider: National Signing Day, which airs from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., CST.

“He’s a natural,” ESPN recruiting expert, Tom Luginbill, said of Tuberville’s ability as a talking head. “[A]s far as being able to communicate and getting your point across concisely and articulately, he’s going to be awesome.”

So you mean he’s good at getting his point across to the people who follow recruiting…just not to the people being recruited? Oh, ok.

Croom Returning to the NFL

Former Mississippi State head coach, Sylvester Croom, has taken a job coaching running backs with the St. Louis Rams. Croom HeadsetCroom says he doesn’t regret a thing about his five-year coaching stint at MSU, and he’s happy that his tenure showed progression in the way the SEC and the South is viewed by the rest of the nation.

“I think some of the myths about minorities not being able to function or lead a program, particularly in the South…I think we destroyed those,” the former All-American Alabama center said.

You damn right, Sly. Hope to see you back in college football again someday.

Funny. Fulmer will be on CBS’s signing day show, and unlike Tuberville, at least he knows something about recruiting. He may not be able to coach worth a crap, but he does know how to put together a great class.
