Alabama Signing Day Announcement Schedule

Ok sickos, here’s the 2009 National Signing Day announcement schedule for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The suspense is terrible. I hope it will last.

– Willie Wonka, borrowed from Oscar Wilde

Head coach Nick Saban and his crew have put together an impressive class thus far, but some of the biggest targets have waited until the final day to publicly declare their choices. Humans actually exist who skip this work day to monitor the final (and in some cases, the most important) touches on recruiting classes around the country. We’ll update as the announcements flow in.

In chronological order:

9:00 a.m.

JANZEN JACKSON
Janzen Jackson Cornerback – Lake Charles, La.
Rivals: #2 CB (five-star)
Scout: #15 CB (four-star)
Prediction: Probably gonna pick LSU. He’s from Louisiana.

**ANNOUNCEMENT DELAYED

PATRICK PATTERSON
Patrick Patterson Wide Receiver – Macon, Miss.
Rivals: #4 WR (four-star)
Scout: #5 WR (five-star)
Prediction: Ole Miss. Sometime, probably during the coddling of Rueben Randle, ‘Bama lost this guy’s attention.

**SIGNED WITH: OLE MISS

9:30 a.m.

BOBBY MASSIE
Bobby Massie Offensive Tackle – Lynchburg, Va.
Rivals: #1 Prep (five-star)
Scout: NR b/c Prep (four-star)
Prediction: Alabama. He is the Tide’s top target for a position in dire need of depth, and he seems to be thrilled about it.

**SIGNED WITH: OLE MISS

9:45 a.m.

DARREN MYLES
Darren Myles Safety – Atlanta, Ga.
Rivals: #9 S (four-star)
Scout: #8 S (four-star)
Prediction: Alabama. Another position ‘Bama needs to fill.

**SIGNED WITH: TENNESSEE

10:00 a.m.

TANA PATRICK
Tana Patrick Inside Linebacker/Strong Linebacker – Stevenson, Ala.
Rivals: #5 ILB (four-star)
Scout: #7 SLB (four-star)
Prediction: Alabama. But wouldn’t be surprised if he chooses Auburn. The Tide’s got like 37 linebackers in line, but Patrick may just be the best any-type-of LB in the entire state (yes, even better than current UA commit Nico Johnson) so he’s probably not too worried about early playing time. And Auburn’s former LB coach, James Willis, now wears crimson. So that helps.

**SIGNED WITH: ALABAMA

KENNY BELL
Kenny Bell Wide Receiver – Rayville, La.
Rivals: #40 WR (four-star)
Scout: #36 WR (four-star)
Prediction: Alabama. He’s committed to LSU, but they’ve got a bunch of WRs. Les Miles has really bunked it up if he loses Bell AND Rueben Randle.

**SIGNED WITH: ALABAMA

11:00 a.m.

BRANDON MOORE
Brandon Moore Offensive Tackle/Defensive Tackle – Montgomery, Ala.
Rivals: #24 OT (four-star)
Scout: #13 OT (four-star
Prediction: Alabama. But some unverified claims that he will pick Florida have been making the rounds, so it’s iffy.

**SIGNED WITH: ALABAMA

EDDIE LACY
Eddie Lacy Running Back – Geismar, La.
Rivals: #13 RB (four-star)
Scout: #24 RB (four-star)
Prediction: Alabama. Although most “experts” believe he will be placed in prep school for academic reasons, he’s a good back for the class. Tennessee would love to have him, but UA has kept up with him even while courting Trent Richardson.

**SIGNED WITH: ALABAMA

12:00 p.m.

RUEBEN RANDLE**
Rueben Randle Wide Receiver – Bastrop, La.
Rivals: #1 WR (five-star)
Scout: #1 WR (five-star)
Prediction: LSU. For months, most people have assumed this guy is a lock for the Bayou Bengals, but recent murmurings claim otherwise. And then there’s this. Still hard to see him getting out of the swamp for a while…unless the New Orleans Saints pass on him as the #1 pick in the NFL Draft in a few years.

**COMMITTED TO (NOT YET SIGNED): LSU

MARSALIS TEAGUE
Marsalis Teague Cornerback/Athlete – Paris, Tenn.
Rivals: #28 ATH (four-star)
Scout: #18 CB (four-star)
Prediction: Florida. He’s committed to the Gators, although it’s anything but firm. Something about Saban getting in his ear about distance from home. And then amateur Lane Kiffin of Tennessee jumped on that boat as well. But usually in these circumstances, if there’s any real wavering, the school holding the commitment bails near the end to pursue other options, and Florida hasn’t done that. So we’re thinking he’s bound for Gainesville.

**SIGNED WITH: TENNESSEE

1:50 p.m.

KENDALL KELLY
Kendall Kelly Wide Receiver – Gadsden, Ala.
Rivals: #26 WR (four-star)
Scout: #25 WR (four-star)
Prediction: Alabama. Kelly hasn’t gotten as much as attention as some of the other receiver targets on ‘Bama’s list, but they’ve been recruiting him hard nonetheless. If he goes to Clemson, he’ll be assured early playing time, but if he goes to UA, he’ll probably play some early AND be on a winning team in a winning conference.

**SIGNED WITH: ALABAMA

2:00 p.m.

DRE KIRKPATRICK
Dre Kirkpatrick Cornerback – Gadsden, Ala.
Rivals: #1 CB (five-star)
Scout: #5 CB (five-star)
Prediction: Alabama. Although he has been entertaining a couple other schools, Kirkpatrick would shock the nation if he chose anywhere else beside Tuscaloosa to play college ball. Announcing right after teammate Kendall Kelly, hopefully they’ll be wearing the same colored hats.

**SIGNED WITH: ALABAMA

4:00 p.m.

TRENT RICHARDSON
Trent Richardson Running Back – Pensacola, Fla.
Rivals: #2 RB (five-star)
Scout: #2 RB (five-star)
Prediction: Alabama. Show’s over, dude. Now it’s time to get serious.

**SIGNED WITH: ALABAMA

  1. Eor says:

NO SIR. NO MASSIE FOR BAMA! what do you expect though from a team that couldn’t beat Utah, or Florida? Welcome to Ole Miss Massie.

  2. Haha…well, he can probably stay in school at Ole Miss (see other prep school signees who mysteriously switch to OM overnight b/c it is in their best academic interest). UA only wanted him for the 5-stars which boosts the ranking. Good for him, though…he might actually see the field at Ole Miss.

  3. Eor says:

Mookie, I sense a little animosity there about Massie. Excuses are like assholes, everyone has one, and they all stink. if what you says eases the pain, then continue.

  4. It does. It does help ease the pain. Thank you. Alabama ain’t hurting with offensive tackles, though.
